It can be the mania episodes this is the time of feeling high to the depressive episodes, the time of feeling low. With manic episodes it is easy for the person to have the urge to overspend, quit their current job and can easily sleep for two hours only and still be refreshed. With the depressive episode the person will complain of being tired, hopeless and will feel guilty of spending all the money they had and for being in debt.
Bipolar symptoms will vary from person to person in the pattern in which they occur, how frequent they are and with severity. There are people who will be prone to manic episodes, those that will be prone to depressive and others that will alternate between the two. Symptoms of mania are characterizes with a lot of energy and euphoria. Patients will have feelings of being very optimistic, easily irritated and always high. They will have very little sleep and still be okay, they might believe that they have some super natural powers and abilities, it will be very hard for them to concentrate ion something for along time. They will talk very fast and will not allow you to interrupt them, will act very reckless without thinking of the consequences, will have hallucinations and impaired judgment.
The depressive episode is the low moment characterized by; problem with sleeping, getting tired very easy and always complaining of fatigue, feelings of being sad, hopeless and emptiness. They will be easily irritated, they will have changes in their eating habits and might either loose or gain weight, will not have energy for any activities even the ones they liked and memory problems. Finding the right treatment will help keep the disorder in control because there is no cure for it yet.
There is no single cause that can be given for depression. Depression will develop for different reasons with different people. For some people it can be due to life events that are stressful like divorce, loss of a loved one, illness or loosing a job. These situations can lead to development of depression. The things that can increase the risk of developing depression are; stressful events in your life. This can be death or a relationship that has come to an end. You might become depressed if you shun away from talking to family and friends. Do not deal with it on your own, share it with the people around you. You can have a higher risk of getting depression if you have some other deadly disease that you have just found out about like cancer. A severe head injury should also be looked at as it can cause depression with change of emotions.
Personality traits such as low self esteem can trigger the onset of depression. These can be an inherited trait from the parents or life experiences that might make you become overly critical of yourself. If you come from a family that has a history of depression, chances are that you are also likely to get it sometime in your life. Women are prone to depression that comes with post pregnancy feelings. The added responsibilities and the body change can trigger depression. The use of drugs and alcohol can cause depression. The urge that comes with wanting to quit can cause depression and the isolation that one gets from society when you become an addict can also trigger it. It is good to avoid these things so that you can lead a better life.
